Anti-Spam Recommendations
Practical recommendations for protecting DID numbers from spam labels and maintaining a good calling reputation.
General Information
There are a number of tips that should be followed to avoid blacklisting your virtual number. First of all, there is currently no 100% guarantee of protecting your number from a "spam" or "suspicious call" label - the decision is made by a particular telecom operator, mobile app, or settings on your client's phone. However, if you follow the rules described below, your number will always have a good reputation.
Practical tips
Working with databases and clients
-
Call only opted-in contacts. Ensure callers have given explicit consent. Avoid using purchased databases or contact lists downloaded from the internet. The more recipients decline your calls or report them to carriers, the faster your number will be blocked or flagged as "spam";
-
Respect opt-out requests. If a contact asks not to be called again, remove them from your database immediately;
-
Call at appropriate times. Avoid disturbing people late at night, early in the morning, or on weekends;
-
Maintain database hygiene. Regularly filter out non-existent, inactive, or invalid numbers.
Calling behavior
-
Avoid aggressive autodialing. Do not bombard clients with consecutive, repetitive calls. Short dropped calls or silence on the line will quickly land your number on a blacklist;
-
Dedicate one number per use case. Separate your phone numbers by function. For instance, technical support should call from one dedicated number, while sales or delivery notifications should use others.
Number and provider configuration
-
Always display Caller ID. Configure your outbound Caller ID (CNAM) so that clients see your brand name on their screens rather than an "unknown number" (to set up this service, please contact your number provider);
-
Officially register your business numbers. Use CallerID registration services and whitelist your numbers with anti-spam apps (e.g., Hiya) to verify that you are a legitimate business and that your number is trusted;
-
Choose local DID numbers. When calling a specific region or country, use local numbers from that area. While VoIP allows for cost-effective international dialing, international routes attract extra scrutiny from local carriers, potentially landing your number on a suspicious activity list.
Agent control and conversation quality
-
Use a polite script. Agents must introduce themselves immediately, state the company name, and clearly explain the purpose of the call;
-
Avoid trigger words. Phrases like "urgent," "you must," "prize winner," "last chance," or "confirm your password" cause panic and prompt users to hit the "Report Spam" button.
What to do if your number is flagged as "Spam"
-
Check your numbers before starting. Before launching a project, check the number's history via Reputation Check in the Teliqon Portal or through other apps (Truecaller, Hiya, etc.) - it might have already been flagged by a previous owner;
-
File an appeal. If your number was blocked or flagged by mistake, contact the anti-spam services or the carrier. Provide your company documentation, website, and proof that your calls are legitimate and compliant.
Conclusion
To maintain a high trust score and ensure successful calling, always run through this final checklist before starting your outreach:
-
Verify number reputation: Ensure your numbers are clean and cleared across anti-spam databases;
-
Use compliant lists: Only call contacts who have explicitly opted in or are expecting your call;
-
Configure Caller ID: Properly display your company name to build immediate trust on the client's screen;
-
Pace your dialing: Maintain a smooth calling schedule and avoid aggressive automated spam tactics;
-
Train your team: Ensure agents introduce themselves clearly and avoid high-risk trigger words.
